Passion

The importance of passion in life has been on my mind over the past year or so. It was reiterated in my mind as I watched the video of Guy Kawasaki. I enjoyed how he points out that money is as important as finding your passion. People do not become rich because they want to, they become rich off of their passions. Located on the whiteboard next to my desk at work is the quote "Successful people are passionate about something. True success is measured by the level of passion that you have for something," Larry King. I remember listening to Larry King say that and thinking, "Wow, isn't it interesting that you can measure your success in life from the level of passion that you have for something?" As I have thought more and more about what it means to have passion about something, and what that passion does for you, I think about what Guy Kawasaki says. He said, "we should be more concerned about changing the world than making money."  Passion in li...

Walking a tight-wire

As I read through and watch the instructional material for this week I was amazed that at the balancing act that we are to acquire throughout our life. Whether that balance is with work and family, balancing the urge that we have to create within entrepreneurship, and the battle we have with the natural man and self-mastery.  As I took time to ponder this struggle that we all have within us to find the perfect balance I found the advice given by Steve Blank to be most helpful. When Mr. Blank was speaking about the balance within the family, he taught me that the most important thing is to schedule yourself in such a way that you are able to create balance. Not allowing yourself to say, I will work a little longer, or I will do that later, and setting an agenda that is set that you can keep to will help you to maintain that balance. I also found great advice within Elder N. Eldon Tanner's talk. He said that we need to remember that the shortest route to two points is straight. As...

Luck

I feel that this week my mind is rotating through multiple thoughts and ideas. I don't know if I have a grasp on which things are most important to recount, how what my thoughts are on the individual idea. That being said, this week allowed me to contemplate more than that of previous weeks. Watching " A Hero's Journey"  made me think about a lot of different things. Am I thinking about what matters most when making decisions or planning my goals and aspirations? The simple questions that he counsels us to ask ourselves change the perspective that we should be having. He also mentioned that we do not want to get into our 60's and think, I have wasted my life. That is a real fear that I think many of us have. Finding ways to pay bills and make money may be on the forefront of our minds so much that we get through the majority of our lives and think...why did I do it? This week it was good to think about people that I can surround myself with, as well as look t...

Ministry of Business

The Ministry of Business was an amazing book to read over the past few weeks and ponder. I often found myself pondering during the week the things I had just read. It provided a great time to reevaluate myself and have introspection. This process of contemplation lead to more understanding and direction than reading the book probably did. It became a springboard for Divine Communication. It was amazing to me the concepts that I read and the experiences over the past year that reiterated the lessons being taught. With the experiences that I have had, the book provided a second or third witness of the truthfulness of a concept. This week we also looked at fears that we have, and ways to overcome or gain perspective on those fears. I was reluctant to look internally and try to be honest about fears that I have, or could have when it comes to starting a business. I tried to put myself out there and try to really think through my fears. Although I knew this, self-doubt can be a ...
